CALL FOR ARTISTS

The Toronto Puppetry Collective is dedicated to fostering the growth of the puppetry community in Toronto. As part of the second season of the Puppet Allsorts performance series, the TPC has added a “Night of Shorts” event, which will showcase new works (or workshop pieces) on Monday, May 26, 2014.

The TPC seeks 10-15 minute pieces that push the envelope of puppetry performance. More than a SLAM piece but less than a full show…a good place to try something out in a more involved way.

Submit a short project description as well as an artist and/or company bio. Please include photos and/or a link to online video (if applicable) of the work.
Artists chosen to perform will receive an honorarium for their participation.
Please email us to submit. MORE INFO

Deadline to submit: February 26, 2014

Tea at the Palace is a sumptuous and lively retelling of two intertwined medieval Russian folktales. A hapless peasant is brought to the Tsar’s court and charged with treason simply for making tea in a samovar. Meanwhile, the Tsar becomes smitten with a clever peasant girl when she arrives at court to request settlement of a dispute. To thwart the budding romance, the Tsar’s meddlesome servants resort to ridiculous antics, but are defeated at their own game when the Tsarina-to-be solves a series of riddles.
Staged in Puppetmongers’ signature style with zest, humour and delightful ingenuity, the show features magical pop-up scenery and an array of puppets based on antique toys and dolls ranging from 6 inches to 6 feet tall! Exuberant music by David Anderson and Nuno Cristo draws on Russian songs and folk instrumentation.

Tea at the Palace is suitable for ages 5 and up.

RED WAGON COLLECTIVE: DONATIONS NEEDED:
fabric, wool, embroidery floss, needles, crochet hooks, old sweaters

RED WAGON COLLECTIVE was formed in 2006 in response to our desire to deepen our artistic, collaborative, and community-engaged practices through residency projects that would enable us to develop both intensive and extensive relationships in the Junction - a rapidly changing neighbourhood in Toronto's west end. We share a desire to work collaboratively with artists and non-artists to create work that inspires new conversations; softens boundaries between groups separated by age, culture, ability, and economic status; promotes the presence of art in everyday life and contributes to increasing public engagement in community development. The work we create with communities is used in producing exhibitions, public installations, and celebratory performance events. We are currently working within the walls of the Evangeline Shelter.

Image Foundry specializes in edition printing, custom art reproduction projects, and high-end photo-retouching work.
