How I Became Invisible is a surreal puppet performance that unearths life, death, and the memories that linger in- between. What happens when you disappear from everything you hold dear, the people you remember, the place you call home? Saija, an 81-year-old woman struggling with Alzheimer's, has moved in with her overbearing daughter who lives in a dilapidated apartment complex. In an attempt to find clarity in an increasingly confusing world, she writes stories for her granddaughter.

Theatre Direct's WEE FESTIVAL FeaturesTwo Puppet Shows!

Theatre Direct, Ontario, Canada
May 15th – May 18th, 2014 at Alliance Française de Toronto

A grumpy old man lives in his little house in the woods. Every day is the same and he likes it this way. One day, something very special occurs, a magical creature leaps into his world and everything changes!
Puppetry, minimal language
Themes of friendship, the natural world, and adjusting to change are explored in this piece, as well as, communication without words.

Théâtre Puzzle, Québec, Canada
May 13th – May 14th, 2014 at Alliance Française de Toronto

Two puppeteers transform the ubiquitous plastic bag into theatrical magic with primitive and very hungry plastic bag creatures that have the audience in stitches with their antics. Performed with minimal language to a percussive score created by the snapping, crinkling and whooshing of the plastic. Over the course of the performance, the world of the play fills with plastic, and our laughter becomes reflective as we consider how much plastic fills our world.

What Puppets Can Do!

This from a recent visitor to the store: Saxapahaw, North Carolina

"Since 1998, we have been using cardboard, corn starch, bamboo, your old house paints, and other assorted junk to create giant puppets, masks, shadow plays, and performances for all ages. We tell stories, beat drums, paint cardboard, sew cloth, get sweaty, push boundaries, and carry heavy things to help make the world a better place. Our parades, pageants, and shows are celebrations for everyone to enjoy; they are expressions of our love, for the earth and its creatures." MORE INFO

RED WAGON COLLECTIVE: DONATIONS NEEDED:
fabric, wool, embroidery floss, needles, crochet hooks, old sweaters

RED WAGON COLLECTIVE was formed in 2006 in response to our desire to deepen our artistic, collaborative, and community-engaged practices through residency projects that would enable us to develop both intensive and extensive relationships in the Junction - a rapidly changing neighbourhood in Toronto's west end. We share a desire to work collaboratively with artists and non-artists to create work that inspires new conversations; softens boundaries between groups separated by age, culture, ability, and economic status; promotes the presence of art in everyday life and contributes to increasing public engagement in community development. The work we create with communities is used in producing exhibitions, public installations, and celebratory performance events. We are currently working within the walls of the Evangeline Shelter.

Image Foundry specializes in edition printing, custom art reproduction projects, and high-end photo-retouching work.
