BILLY
TWINKLE Requiem for a Golden Boy
created and performed by Ronnie Burkett
at Factory Theatre
SEPTEMBER
24 - OCTOBER 24, 2010
Previews: September 24-26
"Ronnie
Burkett returns to Factory Theatre with his newest work. Billy
Twinkle is a middle-aged cruise ship puppeteer who dazzles audiences
with his Stars in Miniature marionette niteclub act...until
he is fired by the cruise line. Contemplating a watery demise,
his dead mentor appears as a ghostly hand puppet, forcing Billy
to re-enact his life as a puppet show and rekindle the passion
for a life that sparkles."

BABETTE PRESENTS
Pulcinella,
il Cameriereis inspired by the Commedia dell'arte
style of puppetry, and the annual Festitalia celebration
in Hamilton, Ontario. Pulcinella, Pantalone, Babette
and the DemonDog are fashioned in the Guarettelle
style, carried on through the centuries in Italy.
Another character, Zanni, shows up to comment on the
action and facilitate the understanding of the style
for Canadian audiences.

and classrooms.
Mike
Harding is also offering a Beginners,

At the Children's Music Garden we
will be creating wonderful musical moments just downstairs from
wonderful puppet creating happening upstairs!
The fun starts Tuesdays in September. Registration has begun!
Please see below for contact info.
We offer unique, creative music education for babies and children.
We offer small classes for children ages 6 months – 7
years old.
Our program teaches the basics of music in a fun, encouraging
environment that promotes peer interaction and personal development.
General music training has many benefits, like improved motor-skills,
self-esteem and focus. Movement, singing, listening and imaginative-play
are the main focuses in the lessons. The children play percussion
instruments and hear the teacher make many different sounds
from the violin and piano at each lesson.
For the month of August we are offering at-home demos. Get some
children together and the teacher will give a free trial lesson!
Register in August and September is FREE.

KELLY
KIRKHAM IS GOING TO BARBADOS TO TEACH PUPPETEERS
OPEN
DOOR DESIGNS was commissioned by the Future
Centre Trust in Barbados to produce six hand puppets
based on drawings in a book also commissioned by them.
Kelly has been hired to travel to Barbados to instruct
the troupe! Tough assignment.
Things
here have been so busy and new things coming in every day...but
I only have time to feature the work of Richard Hanna who I
met a couple of years ago at Puppets Up! By some strange serendipity
I have two of his beautiful needle felted marionettes in the
store for a limited time, all 100% Merino Wool (appropriate
as Richard is from New Zealand). They are so expressive and
expertly crafted and they actually function! Incredible works
of art.

The
Pump Up Perth Residents Committee
A group of concerned residents, has
put together a campaign to inform as many parents as possible
about Perth PS.
After the public meeting with Trustee Maria Rodrigues, she
stressed that the parent community needs to send new letters
to her, for which she can present to the Director of Planning.
We need to get on the next TDSB planning agenda in September.
Please see latest summary of the public meeting at http://www.junctiontriangle.ca/perthps#comment-1861.
Visit
the website junctiontriangle.ca/perthps
where copies of the flyer and a pre-written form letter are
available for download, along with a lively discussion about
the need for grades 7/8 and French Immersion.

Since
the beginning of January Central Tech students have been getting
hands-on experience with the skilled trades they love by renovating
a vacant warehouse at 45 Ernest Ave. into a new home for the
Dovercourt
Boys' and Girls' club. The students hope to have their
renovations finished in time so the club can begin regular

NEEDED:
fabric, wool, embroidery floss, needles, crochet hooks, old
sweaters
RED WAGON COLLECTIVE was formed in 2006 in response to our desire
to deepen our artistic, collaborative, and community-engaged
practices through residency projects that would enable us to
develop both intensive and extensive relationships in the Junction
- a rapidly changing neighbourhood in Toronto's west end. We
share a desire to work collaboratively with artists and non-artists
to create work that inspires new conversations; softens boundaries
between groups separated by age, culture, ability, and economic
status; promotes the presence of art in everyday life and contributes
to increasing public engagement in community development. The
work we create with communities is used in producing exhibitions,
public installations, and celebratory performance events. We
are currently working within the walls of the Evangeline Shelter.
