Shawna Reiter is the co-founder and artistic director of CLUNK Puppet Lab, where she creates original work through the exploration of highly visual theatre.

Her most notable shows include: “How I Became Invisible”, “The Climbing Man”, and “The Unremarkable Disappearance of Mr. Ogorki”. Trained as a visual artist with a degree from the Ontario College of Art and Design, and an MFA from the University of Calgary, Shawna has devised a hybrid practice that integrates her artistic training with her passion for puppet theatre. Alongside her theatrical productions, she has created large-scale sculptures, robotic puppet installations, and interactive video animations. She has also apprenticed under Peter Balkwill of the Old Trout Puppet Workshop, and studied physical theatre at Green Fools Theatre in Calgary, Alberta. An active member of the Toronto Puppetry Collective, she is passionate about building and strengthening Canada’s puppetry culture through festival development, education, and by supporting the development of new work by emerging artists.

Shawna has taught both fine art and puppetry classes and workshops to children and adults from diverse backgrounds at universities, colleges, art galleries, and school boards across Canada. She also works as a freelance puppet designer and builder. She has created puppets for Forte Musical Theatre’s “Maria Rasputin Presents”, Old Trout Puppet Workshop’s latest show “Ignorance” as well as their new NFB film “The First Christmas Present”. Most recently Shawna has been traveling to Massachusetts, USA to collaborate with David Lane of New England Puppetry on a puppet serial drama “The Chronicles of Rose”.
